One Potato...Two Potato...Three Potato...Four!

Today we noticed the first flower 

on our potato plants!

The leaves are so big and lush!

 Frankly, we are quite amazed at

how well our potatoes are growing this year...

Seems as though it was just a month ago...

Usually, by the first of July

we might have some seedlings just barely poking

through the ground.

But this year...

They seem to have taken right off!

A view from the roof...we were shingling!

We are certain that one of the 

main reasons is because we planted 

them in our "back" garden

this year...

The soil in this garden is incredibly rich...

A few years ago we dumped a truck bed load

of wood chips on it...

And then did "bag" gardens that year.

Ready to be hoed!

 After a winter of rotting and mulching...

We had a whole garden full of fluffy dark soil!

Our potatoes are doing so well...

that my husband joked about getting in

"a second crop" this season!

The soil hoed up so easily!

And speaking of potatoes...

How many of you played the game

"One potato, two potato..."

as a child?

If you're not familiar with this

children's rhyming game...

It is a way to eliminate everyone

until one person is left to be "it"

in a game of tag or other chasing games.

Have you ever felt like you are handling

important situations or decisions in your life

with the "One potato, two potato..." method?

Lately, it seems like I have...

But today, 

as I spent a few moments 

in the potato patch

checking for flowers...

The Lord impressed upon me the importance

of not just randomly choosing what

I should try to accomplish with the time 

He has given me each day...

But to take every day and each situation

to Him in prayer...

Trusting that He knows what is best for me...

And that He will never give me

more than I can handle.

And that method

certainly has much more a "peel"!

"Trust in the LORD and do good;

 dwell in the land and enjoy safe pasture..."

Psalm 37:3
