I finally tried it...
Making soap!
I wanted to for such a long time now...
Buying homemade soap can be expensive...
Yet, I've been concerned about all the additives
in commercial brands...
At first, I was so nervous...
working with lye and all...
But I watched several online videos
and read umpteen books...
Not wanting to invest a lot in this new craft
at first...
just in case it didn't work out...
I went to our local "Larry's Swap Shop"
and got a large crock pot, bowls,
utensils, and these two cute silicone cookie molds
along with a few other "finds"
all for 5 dollars!
I made three different "flavors" of soap...
using the hot process method...
Pink grapefruit oatmeal,
lavender balsam oatmeal,
and vanilla honey oatmeal...
I got some empty pringles cans
from our recycle center to make the round soaps...
I put them in little clear bags
with ribbons to use as
party favors at my
"very soon to be" daughter's
bridal shower!
Making soap with the "hot process" method
is certainly much faster than using
the "cold process" method...
You have a finished product in a matter
of hours rather than a matter of weeks...
Still...there was time to reflect
while I was stirring the mixture
waiting for a "light trace"...
And I got to thinking about one place
in the scriptures where "soap" is mentioned...
Jeremiah 2:22...
"For though thou wash thee with nitre,
and take thee much soap,
yet thine iniquity is marked before me..."
Although this verse was directed at the nation of Isreal...
The Lord is reminding us here that no matter how hard
we try to "clean" ourselves up on the outside...
No matter what we attempt to "make" ourselves
100 % pure and good and "righteous"...
Nothing but the blood of Christ
can cleanse us from sin,
take away its
filth,
removes its guilt,
and cover it out of the sight of God.
Nothing...
"What can wash away my sin?
Nothing but the blood of Jesus..."
