The Lord Provides...

Many of you know
that our youngest son
is our resident "Mr. Fix-It"...

The Lord blessed our Samuel
with a mechanical mind
and a love for anything
with wheels and motors...

Many's the time
that this "gift"
has saved us time and money
in garage repairs.

We knew how important
it would be to foster this "gift"
in Samuel's home education.

But just how to best do this
was the question...

Although there is a local
technical school nearby to us...

Which does offer some courses
in engine repair and such...

We found that on his own
Samuel had already exceeded
much of what was being taught there.

And sending him away to school
was simply out of the question...

Once again,
In His amazing way,
The Lord showed us
How He continues to provide for us...

This past June...
while working at his summer job
(friends of ours have their own
sporting goods store)
Samuel waited on a customer...

He was an older gentleman
There to order sweatshirts
for his garage...

He and Samuel began to talk cars...
And before too long...
He asked Sam if he would be
interested in working for him.

What has happened since then
Is again...
a blessing from the Lord.

For this wonderful man
Has become a mentor to Samuel...
Teaching him all that he knows
about car repair and maintance
every weekday afternoon
As part of our home education program.

Sam' s mentor is a simple man
Who has run an old garage
all by himself
 and has for many years.

Folks come back
time and time again
because they trust his work.

The garage isn't much to look at
from the outside...
It could use a good coat of paint...
The windows could use a little windex...
And the big round clock
has read "3:30"
for as long as I can remember...

Oh, but inside...
Is just another loving example
of how the Lord continues
to provide for us...

Last Friday afternoon...
Samuel came home from "the shop"
With two grocery bags
From his "buddy"...

"Happy Thanksgiving, Sam"
was all he said
as he placed the bags in Sam's "48"

Again, the Lord provides...

Happy Thanksgiving, everyone!

"Enter His gates with thanksgiving,
And His courts with praise.
Give thanks to Him; bless His name."
 Psalm 100:4

  4. Laura, That is a wonderful heart warming story! I've missed you! I haven't posted much lately..but I'm warming back up again. I think. :o)

We must be traveling the same road. My son has been trying to get started with his criminal justice degree..and get into the military reserve program for college funding.

After six months, it seemed like the door was closed. Today he was offered a job opportunity working at the Huntsville prison (the mild cases), part time, but the pay is enough to pay all of his room, board, and tuition to college.

He's a 'policeman' at heart. It doesn't scare him a bit..though it makes me a little nervous.

Still, he's just thrilled. He said that it's what he has been called to do--protect people. I had to run to the notary at the bank today to sign an affidavit assuring them that his diploma as a homeschooler was 'legitimate'.

In spite of all his academic accomplishments..the idea of homeschooling..still worries everyone. But the Lord is blessing every step he takes.

We need not worry. The path is laid out before our sons. :o)

    Happy Thanksgiving,
    Donna

  5. So many people gave testimony to me of how God guided their children through the tough decision of "what to do after High School." When my son hit that age, I asked "Lord will you do that for HIM too?" Such little faith... And sure enough He did.
So wonderful to see what God is doing in Samuel's life. God is so good!
Have a wonderful Thanksgiving! So wonderful to hear of your Thanksgiving blessings. :)

  8. Good Morning, Karen, and Happy Thanksgiving! We've got frost on the ground this morning...but the sun is shining in my window and it looks like a beautiful day! The "men" hope to get out hunting this afternoon...they've seen so many signs...and Josh has seen several does...unfortunately, he doesn't have a doe permit this year.

May you and your family all have a very blessed Thanksgiving!

  11. Dear Laura,
What a wonderful story! It brought tears to my eyes. :)
It sounds like a wonderful opportunity for Samuel to learn from a great teacher. I hope things will work well for both of them.
Isn't it amazing how the Lord provides for us? I'm so thankful for all of His blessings.
Hope you had a wonderful Thanksgiving.♥

  12. Dear Melanie,

I just love it when you stop by for a visit! Yes, we feel so blessed that Samuel made the connection with this wonderful man...he is just learning so much! And it certainly helps us to have a mechanic in the family...especially with the cost of car repairs these days!

We did have a wonderful Thanksgiving, thank you. Of course, there was some hunting in the morning...but no more deer I'm afraid. Oh, well, it is nice to have one in the freezer. Deer hunting season is officially over in Maine as of yesterday...unless you have a muzzleloader(then you have two more weeks!

Thought you might enjoy hearing that Daniel will be teaching online for a Bible college down your way...and hopes to start his doctorate at Liberty very soon!

    Take care, my friend,
    Laura
