Recently, Joshua came home from
mowing rather discouraged...
A piece of metal
that held the ramp of
his new trailer
had broken off...
![]() | |
| Samuel points to the part that broke... |
He knew that he needed to
have it repaired
in order to carry his
equipment safely...
But dreaded having to
find someone who did this type of work.
And worried about the cost
and the time he would be
without his trailer
while it was being repaired.
Our youngest, Samuel,
took one look at it and said...
"I can fix that...it won't take any time at all!"
Donning his welding gear...
Samuel set off to the garage.

And in the time it took me to
hang out a few loads of laundry
and iron a few shirts...
He was finished!
Samuel learned to how to weld
from my husband...
because he was interested in cars and such.
Webster defines welding in this way...
1. to unite (metallic parts) by heating
and allowing the metals to flow together
or by hammering or compressing with
or without previous heating
2. to repair by this same method
But Webster also provides a
third definition for the word weld...
3. to unite or reunite closely or intimately
This third definition
reminds me of the kind
of family that the Lord
has blessed me with.
He united us all together...
Each with different interests...
Each with special talents...
All for the purpose of helping each other
and for honoring and serving Him.
"Iron sharpeneth iron;
so a man sharpeneth
the countenance of his friend."
Proverbs 27:17

You have such a nice family, Laura! That was nice Samuel could fix Josh's trailer. You are right that God chose what family we are to be in. Each one contributes the best way they can. I enjoy reading Josh's blog. He is a nice young man. I have a son and a daughter. My daughter just visited us from Denver, Colorado this past week. I love when everyone is back home!
ReplyDeleteGod bless, Kathy
Is Samuel the one that refashioned parts of an old ladder to make a window that opens on your greenhouse? That young man is quite talented. Welding is an art that isn't easy to learn.
ReplyDeleteNothing like *that* kind of welding :)
ReplyDeleteBut what a blessing to have practical skills in our homes... and especially if God has blessed different members of our family with different gifts.... what a help we can all be to each other .
Dear Kathy,
ReplyDeleteThank you so much for stopping by...and for your sweet comment about my family. I'm so glad that you enjoy Joshua's blog...he really appreciates that you take the time to read it! How wonderful that your daughter could spend some time with you. I have so enjoyed having my children close all these years...I can't imagine what it will be like if any of them move far away!
Hope you have a blessed evening,
Laura
Dear Granny,
ReplyDeleteWhat a wonderful memory you have! Yes, Samuel is our "little" inventor and mechanic! (I use the term "little" loosely...he now stands over 6 feet tall!). What a blessing it has been that he has taken such a shine to cars and trucks...it has saved us a world of money in garage bills. In fact, next week he is taking Joshua's truck to his friend's garage to fix the brake lines.
Hope you and Grampy are well!
Blessings,
Laura
Dear Anne,
ReplyDeleteThank you so stopping by...and for your sweet comment. You, too, know the blessing of having a family gifted with so many different skills and talents...all which help to "weld" your family together for His purpose!
Have a blessed day,
Laura
HI Laura,
ReplyDeleteHow are you? Been worring about you..
thankyou for the encouraging post.So enjoy each and everyone..GOd bless.Judy
How wonderful! My first thought as I read was that I was sure Samuel could fix it and well I finished reading the post and he was able to. :o) So great to have everyone in your family working together like the members of the body of Christ. :o)
ReplyDeleteDear Judy,
ReplyDeleteYou are just the sweetest...we are all fine...just super busy!!! I've been doing lots of canning...and getting ready for our goats...as well as sewing and other handiwork. Hope you are all fine...what projects are you working on?
Have a blessed day, my friend,
Laura
Dear Nabila,
ReplyDeleteSo nice to hear from you, my dear. We have been blessed with a beautiful garden this year...so I've been quite busy this summer. Hope all is well with your sweet family. Give those two little ones a big hug for me!
With love,
Laura
How nice of Samuel to help out his big brother like that. :)
ReplyDeleteI really like that third definition!
Hope you're having a great summer.♥
Hi Laura,
ReplyDeleteI was going to email you ,instead of writing on here..but I couldnt make out the adress on here.sorry.
So proud your "just busy" , and not sick.. Summer does bring lots of extra work with the wonderful fruits and vegatables that our wonderful Saviour has supplied us with.. I too have been putting stuff up..and cooking lots of wonderful suppers [there goes the little weight I had lost,ha].
You said, you were wanting to do an Olivia Walton dress.I love, love, love the Waltons.. and I love every dress she has done.. I made one for one of the SW challenges..[think it was in April].anyway..dont look at the picture, it turned out awful..but in real life.. the dress was pretty.. I used a new pattern --Butterick 5315..It was perfect. It has a round neck with the round collars.buttons in the front to the waist.. I used an aline skirt pattern from one of my vintage patterns ,instead of the skirt pattern that came with it.. Check it out..this may help you..
Hope you and family have a great evening. God bless.Judy
That is great, yes my dh can weld too, he worked in steel fabrication plant in Michigan when we were really young married, he learned a lot from there, and still does much things he learned from youth, it is good to learn as much as you can, you never know when something is going to break, wala you can fix it, a welding shop would cost quite a bit I am sure, your ds saved a lot of money and time for you dh, good for him.
ReplyDeleteHugs my friend, have a great day.
May God bless you really good,Barbara
