Some of you
may recall that
in an earlier post
this week I
mentioned that
we went on
a "mission"

We had stopped
in at Elmer's
Barn to see
if we could
pick up
some chains
for the
'78 plow
truck.
You see, this past Monday,
the day of the big storm,
my husband noticed that the truck
was losing traction when he plowed,
and needed chains on the tires.

He had some old chains
that he had used on a previous truck...
But they weren't long enough
For the tires on our '78 chevy.
So, he picked up an extra chain at Elmer's,
And after some minor alterations...

He had two chains long enough
to fit around the truck tires.
While all this was going on
in the garage...
Samuel was outside working on the truck.

Since the rear tires had better tread
Than the front ones,
Samuel switched the tires...
In order to put the chains
On the ones with less tread.
Than the front ones,

And all it took?
A few more links
in an old chain...
Links In A Chain...
Form strong connections...
Which helps keep this old truck plowin'...

Which link a father with his sons...
And we find amazing links
throughout the Scriptures...
But none perhaps as important...
As the one we read about
in Matthew chapter one
and Luke chapter three
where we find the genealogy
of our Lord and Saviour...
Which links Adam to Christ...
And Abraham to Christ...
And King David to Christ...
And God the Father...
To God the Son...
And the Old Testament to the New...
And fulfills the prophecies of Scripture...
And provides a way for us
to be part of this incredible link.
"But as many as received Him,
to them He gave the right to become children of God,
even to those who believe in His name..."
John 1:12
My friends, this is the link in the chain
That really matters...
Please consider this as you make
Your New Year's Resolutions.
And my part in all of this?
Well, I was the one who

I enjoyed the pictures of your handy men tackling a problem and solving it so nicely! I've never actually seen chains on tires before. Does that tear up the roads, or is everything so covered in snow and ice that the tires don't actually touch the asphalt?

I loved your reflection that we are all links in the chain of our Savior. How grateful I am that He loved us enough to redeem us, and allow us to fulfill the purpose He originally intended in the garden of Eden. One day we will all be changed into our proper selves, sinless and pure as we were designed to be! Halleluia!!

ReplyDeleteI'm sure that it must seem very cold to you...but really, we have some lovely days in the wintertime. We only use the chains on the plow truck for plowing driveways on our road...which is a dirt road. Others do use chains on their trucks on the paved roads...but they are only allowed during winter months when it is snowy and icy. With some of the storms we get, chains are definitely needed!

I thought this is what you might have been on a mission for, Mrs. Laura! :) From looking at the photo of Mr. Wiley in the last post, it had looked like he was holding chains, and that was one of the first thoughts that popped into my mind was that they might be for the tires on your truck. Glad you could find them! And how nice for your guys to be able to work on this project together . . . family projects are always fun to do. And now your truck is all ready for the next big snow storm!

I hadn’t thought about it in that manner before, but we are indeed linked to Him in an unbreakable chain now. Through believing in Him, we have become “heirs with Him” and “children of God.” Such a beautiful and humbling truth!

So observant, Miss Sarah! Yes, the chains truly do come in handy. We so often get ice on top of the snow because of living so close to the water, and so traction is very important. Some of the plowing was rough going last Monday without the chains...now we are all set for the next big storm!
ReplyDeleteHow wonderful that we are linked in this unbreakable chain with our Saviour! Such an awesome gift...but an awesome responsibility as well...for, as a child of His, we must be careful to never bring shame to His name. This requires diligent re-evaluation daily on our part...and total trust in Him.
