Until several days ago, these folks were strangers to us.
As many of you know, we heat our home primarily by wood.
Being the only lady in a home with 4 strapping "men",
Most of our wood is split by hand...
the old fashioned way.
Occasionally, through the years,
we have had access to a woodsplitter...
but, as I've said before,
most pieces of firewood
were split by an axe.
Last week, my youngest son
was helping one of our elderly neighbours split some firewood.
The neighbour had borrowed a woodsplitter
from a friend in town.
When the man came to pick up his woodsplitter,
my son was still there helping our neighbour.
So, he had the opportunity to meet this kind man
who had lent his woodsplitter to our elderly neighbour.
guy stuff.
The man wanted no money for lending us this tool...
"I don't rent my machine..."
We were told...
"I let my neighbours use it."
His wife was equally as wonderful...
She raises milking goats...
And heard that we were interested in them...
"I will be breeding my favorite milker soon
and looking for a good home for her baby..."
she said with a smile.
"Please come visit soon and we'll talk goats!"
Dearest friends,
Just another opportunity for me to see...
That God is always blessing...
Through the people around us...
If we only open our eyes...and our hearts.
"Then one of them, which was a lawyer,
asked him a question, tempting him, and saying,
Master, which is the great commandment in the law?
Jesus said unto him,
Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart,
and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind.
This is the first and great commandment.
And the second is like unto it,
Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself."
On these two commandments hang all the law and the prophets.

about trucks and wood and hunting...guy stuff.

ReplyDeleteHow beautiful! :o) Such an encouragement to keep the gift of "friendship" and giving going to the next person! :o)
ReplyDeleteDear Laura,
ReplyDeleteWhat a wonderful story! I know what a blessing it is when a neighbor will share their tools with you. I don't know what we would do without our neighbor's tractor. He's just a lonely single man who has basically begun homesteading next to us. It's taken him almost a year to get settled out here and he wanted us to keep an eye on his equipment. Some teenagers apparently try to vandalize his stuff. I have never seen these teens, but he is worried. He's so thrilled that we would care for and use his stuff while he is between two homes. And we are able to maintain our private road for all the neighbors.
That's the best part of living in the country--I think. :o)
