No Ladies...
This is not a post about dieting...
But on this super sunny Saturday
in snowy midcoast Maine...
You will find many friends and neighbors...
Up on their roofs!
With the snow piling up these past few weeks...
Many of us have upwards of
between 1 and 2 feet of snow
on our rooftops.
And with another storm due tonight...
This one promising to bring heavy snow
at first...
And then rain and ice...
We have been warned to remove
as much snow as possible from our roofs...
In order to prevent ice building-up,
leaking, and possible collapses.
Why is it...
That we take heed when we are warned
about too much weight on our roofs...
But we ignore the signs...
But we ignore the signs...
When there is too much weight on our hearts?
The Bible tells us that there
The Bible tells us that there
is something we can do...
To relieve this pressure
that can cause so much damage...
God tells us in His Word...
To give our load to Him.
"Cast thy burden upon the LORD,
and he shall sustain thee:
he shall never suffer the righteous to be moved."
Psalm 55:22 He will bear the weight of our burdens...
"Blessed be the Lord, who daily bears our burden,
The God who is our salvation..."
The God who is our salvation..."

And, just as we saw

neighbor helping neighbor
clearing roofs today...
We are also called
to help bear one another's burdens...
"Bear ye one another's burdens,
and so fulfil the law of Christ."

It's so nice that neighbors were helping each other clear their roofs.
What beautiful verses to share today. They are wonderful reminders to help each other and give our burdens to the Lord.
I definitely do not want to travel life's road alone.

ReplyDeleteLooks like quite the job that y'all had to accomplish. Dad was out on the roof yesterday and today trying to remove as much snow off as possible. We know of several people that because of ice dams, have had to deal with leaks. Thankfully, we haven't come to that. But the icicles here are massive!!

ReplyDeleteThere was certainly a lot of snow up there on the roof. I'm really glad we took care of it. Gramp was telling me yesterday about people in Massachusetts who had their roofs collapse due to the weight of the snow (I think he mentioned some Wal-Mart roofs caving in as well).
1 Peter 5:7 says to cast "all your care upon him; for he careth for you." It is such a comfort to know that the Lord wants to bear our burdens for us. What a loving Savior He is to us.

ReplyDeleteHope you all had a blessed Sunday. We were so thankful to get our roof shoveled off...we got quite a bit of rain last night...which would have been a disaster on top of all that snow. My guys are so great...I just love them to pieces!
You must be getting very excited about tomorrow! Thirteen years old! Wow! I hope Miss Katie has the best birthday...please give her a big birthday hug from all of us.

We were so thankful to get all that snow off the roof...we had quite a bit of rain last night...which could have made for a disaster on top of all that snow. After they shoveled it, Joshua took a container of sea salt and sprinkled it on top of the layer of ice...and by late afternoon...they were able to lift the ice chunks off the roof. Perhaps your dad might try that on your roof ice.
I so appreciate your comment about laying our burdens on Christ...He so wants us to bring our cares to Him. And there is such comfort and peace in this!
Please tell your family that we are thinking of them...

ReplyDeleteYou guys are just the best! What would I ever do without you all! It was such a relief to see that snow gone yesterday...and not to be concerned when the rains came. Your idea of the sea salt on the ice was a great one! I must admit though...it was pretty funny to see you with the rope tied around your waist when you "dove" for the camera! I thought dad was going to have a heart attack! It was worth it though, you got some great pictures from the roof!

Thanks for stopping by, Donna! Always so nice to hear from you. It was a bit of work...but very worth it...since we had no problem with our roof! Today is absolutely gorgeous! Sunny and almost 50 degrees in the sun! You won't hear any complaints from me!

Mrs. Wiley, when I read the parallel you drew about casting our cares on Christ, it brought to mind several different hymns we know. 'Turn Your Eyes upon Jesus', 'What a Friend We Have in Jesus', and others. I find that often when I read various posts different songs come to mind, and for me at any rate, music is a wonderful way to remember different truths taught in the Bible. It is soo wonderful and freeing to know that God is more than capable to take care of us. Not only that, He loves us, and therefore wants to do so. Thanks a lot for this gentle reminder.
